Once upon a time there was a pony
who was afraid to go outside. She stayed
in her stable drinking tea
in her dressing gown. The mud
in the field was deep and the mist
was too cold and the other ponies
were either mean or ignored her.
One night when everyone else was asleep
she stepped out to watch the moonlight
reflect in the puddles, and the wet trees
that looked sad as the stars. She dropped
her gown and began to gallop,
shining and forgetting
the names of all things she despaired about.
And even the mud looked silver on her
when no one else could see it.
