Once upon a time there was a man
who believed in gods. Every day he lit
a fire and sang a song of praise and thanks
for the wood. Over time
his fires got a little larger
until at last he sang his prayer and
set light to the forest itself.
It burned for weeks, roasting animal families
and plants. And people
came to watch in fear. The man sat
warming his hands and looked to the sky.
He saw his gods smiling down
pleased that he enjoyed their generous gift.
